The 17³Ô¹Ï Bachelor of Science in Theatre and Dance with a concentration in design and technical prepares students for a career in professional live entertainment industries and in academia. Through traditional classroom work and experimental learning, students will become experts in a broad range of design and technical trades in a film or stage production setting.

This program gives you access to a wide variety of our university's resources. 17³Ô¹Ï Theatre's three stages serve as laboratories for hands-on training. You participate in all phases of our production program, including a wide range of theatrical works and dance concerts on-campus and throughout the state and nation.

Design and Technical Courses You May Take

Scenic Design: Concentration on hands-on design work with emphasis on composition, renderings, model-making and working drawings.

Stage Lighting: Instruction and laboratory training in the technical aspects of stage lighting and lighting design. Offers practical experience with University lighting and control equipment.

Rendering for the Theatre: An exploration of various medias and technologies used in creating necessary documents to communication in the theatrical process in line with standard industry practices.

Stage/Theatre Management: A survey of various methods in the management of theatre, including stage, box office, and house management. 

Costume Design: Study of the costume designer's role in the creative process and the principles of design through historical accuracy.

Upon graduation, you will be prepared to enter a career in professional theatre, film or TV. With design and technical being such a broad field, you will have an opportunity to find work in radio, commercials, modeling, opera, dance companies and any other entertainment industry. The communication skills that you will acquire through this program can also open up roles in fields like law, public relations or marketing.
