The 17³Ô¹Ï Bachelor of Science in Theatre and Dance with a concentration in dance provides students with a broad perspective in the dance industry by offering classroom instruction in several genres like ballet, tap, jazz, latin, ballroom, etc. Coursework also includes stagecraft, costume construction and dance pedagogy to help students navigate related fields, as well as to anticipate future trends in a professional dancer's career.
This program gives you access to a wide variety of our university's resources. 17³Ô¹Ï Theatre's three stages serve as laboratories for hands-on training. You participate in all phases of our production program, including a wide range of theatrical works and dance concerts on-campus and throughout the state and nation.

Pathways in Dance: A first semester seminar in dance, this course offers special training in establishing the building blocks for success in a collegiate dance degree and thereafter including exploring professional practices and expectations, identity development, personal accountability, academic skills, and career pathways.
Latin, Ballroom and Social Dance: An introduction to various social dances, including the history and technique of partner dancing in Latin and Ballroom forms in the U.S. and around the World. No previous experience is expected. Course is open to non-majors.
Improvisation: A creative dance technique for selecting and developing new movement.
Dance History: The evolution of religious, social and theatrical dance from prehistoric times through the present.
Dance for Theatre and Musical Theatre: An introduction to dance styles and practices for Theatre and Musical Theatre including historical vernacular forms from the Renaissance to the 20th Century, iconic musical theatre repertory, auditioning practices for dance, and composition for the theatre. Course includes both lecture and studio experience.
A bachelor's degree in dance can lead to diverse career paths, including performance and choreography, education and arts administration. Other options include roles in therapeutic practices, technical theatre, marketing and media. Some careers may require further education or specific training, though.
