Undergraduate Research Grant (URG)

The Office of Undergraduate Research is pleased to announce the Undergraduate Research Grant (URG) Program. The program is aimed to encouraging talented students to perform high-impact research (defined broadly as activities generating new models of understanding the world around us, development of new approaches and technologies that lead to progress of society and humanity) with faculty mentor supervision from 17勛圖.

All disciplines (STEM and non-STEM) of research, as well as scholarly and creative activities will be supported. We anticipate that in FY2024-2025, up to 25 Undergraduate Research Grants will be awarded.

Call for proposals opens – contact Dr. Cristian Bahrim, Director of O.U.R. at cbahrim@lamar.edu, with a letter of intent for submission of a URG proposals.

September 19

Workshop on literature review for preparing a grant proposal – Presenter: Dr. Elizabeth Sanders, Interim Director of Learning and Research at the Mary and John Gray Library.

Time/Location: 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Galloway 243

Panel Discussion on “Preparing a successful grant proposal”. Student winners and mentors will share their experience in writing a successful proposal. 4:30 – 5:00 p.m. in Galloway 243.

September 25

Workshop on writing a successful grant proposal or a compelling narrative. Presenter Mrs. Casey Ford, CITL Assistant Director of Faculty Success.

October 15 The submission of URG proposals closes at 11:59 p.m. No more proposal submissions allowed.
November 3 URG student awardees are announced.
November 6-7

URG Orientation - Mandatory presence for student and faculty mentors in one of the days. This workshop is for OUR grant winners and their mentors, only.

December 2

The Awards Ceremony for the 12th O.U.R. Fall Conference

Time/Location: 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. in Galloway – Landes 101

January 23, 2026 URG Kickoff Day – Time/Location: TBA
February 26-27, 2026 Mid-term report - Meeting with the Director of O.U.R. on project progress
April 23-24, 2026 Undergraduate Research Expo 2026. All URG student awardees are required to present his/her research at this event.
May 31, 2026 Final report is due
