The Carnegie Classifications, announced April 24 by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the American Council on Education (ACE), represent a fundamental shift in how U.S. colleges and universities are understood. Moving beyond traditional metrics, this revised framework prioritizes student success, economic mobility, and institutional mission as key indicators of impact.
